Living Above Reproach

Jay Copeland

Life Above Reproach has been a joy to me as I read each book of the New Testament, searching for themes they represent. I could not be just a casual reader, I had to read prayfully as I sought understanding. When I shared in our group, I received confirmation as I heard those same themes repeated by my brothers. I also gained new insights that had been revealed to the other men.

Throughout, I have been challenged to consider how God’s Word applies to my life, and the steps I will take to live obediently to His Word. This goes hand in hand with the next part of the program where I shared with, and was accountable to the men in my group for my behavior throughout the week. Knowing I would be giving a report to these men kept me more mindful of my thoughts and actions each day. Exercisingin this function of the body of Christ has made a difference in my outlook toward others, my though pattern, and my actions.

The four-step process of prayer was more thoughtful than the usual “give me what I want” prayers we so often prayed. What made it different was my focus, first on being thankful to God. I find that when I begin my prayers with thanksgiving,my list of wants dissolves in the light of God’s great faithfulness to me. Taking time in prayer to repent of anything I might have kept unspoken during the week was another important part of accountability, as well as a confession in my need for His help in this life.

During the intercession portion, I was encouraged to consider those who are in need of salvation through Christ and asked for God’s guidance to do my part in sharing Jesus. By the time we got to personal requests, I found myself focused on those things which would help me to be a better witness of Jesus Christ.

I recommend Life Above Reproach to anyone who desires to read the Bible with purpose, and anyone who wishes to learn to become transparent while accountable to the body of Christ.

With love in Christ,
