FAITH AND NOT SIGHT

Maurice Cook

To walk by faith and not by sight can be one of the hardest things for me to do at times, especially since the human brain will naturally tell me that if I can see something, then it exists.  But if I do not see it then it must not exist.  What adds to the difficulty of walking by faith is the fact that my Father who I cannot see wants me to trust solely in Him when I have a hard enough time trusting in my earthly parents who I can see.

Trusting only in what I see is a fleshly way of thinking and is contrary to the wisdom of God.  Walking by sight causes frustration, confusion, doubt, self-reliance, disappointment, and delayed deliverance.  The reason this is so because of our limited understanding as humans and the devil’s tricks.

For example, let us say I left a $20 bill on the table of a coffee shop by accident.  When I get to my car, I remember what I did.  However, as I turn around to go back into the shop, I watch a man quickly look in my direction and then pocket my money.  Once back in the coffee shop I approach the guy and tell him what I did and explain what I saw him do.

What if despite me stating all true facts the guy denies taking my money and/or even calls me a liar.  Naturally, I would be upset because I do not like being made a victim in any way, shape or form.  Nor do I like being insulted.  In this instance if I am walking by sight all I see is a thief, liar, and someone not worthy to talk to; and if I was not a Christian, then my victim!

However, if I am walking by faith I see “Satan’s victim,” and an opportunity to help someone who may be in an unfortunate financial situation.   Or maybe God is testing me and purging any fruit I have beared, or possibly an opportunity to show someone about trusting in Jesus.

Does this mean that I do not address the issue?  No, instead I am allowing the $20 that God gave me in the first place to be used to potentially save a soul.  There is always hope in walking in faith because my hope is not in self.  Instead, it is in God, His word, His promises, and His power which cannot fail.

More and more as God matures in me to walk in faith, I find peace because I know that no matter what the world says and does, if God has told me “yes” then it will happen in His timing and in His way.
