My Testimony

By Correll Hicks Jr.

Dear Beloved Children:

I want to start by telling you something that I believe you’ve been waiting to hear which is the current trouble you’re in is not all your fault.  The problems you are having in life are rooted in circumstances completely out of your control.  You did not get to choose who would be your mother or father.  You did not get to choose where you would grow up or what school to attend as that is determined by where you live.  Your home, your neighborhood, your school; if any one of these three institutions is dysfunctional, then it will impact and hinder your development.  If all three are dysfunctional, then you are almost guaranteed a life of troubles.  If any of those institutions are dysfunctional, it is because an adult has failed you.

So, what I want to say next is as an adult man of 41 years of age, I am sorry.  I say I am sorry because I failed you too,; and if I had been the responsible man God created me to become, I would be with you right now to help get you through your troubles.  I firmly believe you need to hear this from an adult because we adults too often fail to acknowledge our mistakes.

Here’s what else you need to know.  You will be accountable for how you learn to respond to those circumstances that are beyond your control.  Plus, your response is how you can overcome those situations.  So, please allow me to offer the best response that will yield for you the best results.  Reach out to Jesus because He is the one who will never leave you, never fail you or forsake you.  Call on His name and He will show up on time, every time!

Now, I don’t expect you to do so just because of my word.  Jesus isn’t someone you learn about, He’s someone you experience.  Then after you have experienced Him you will turn your hearts to learn about Him and learn from Him.  So here’s how you will most likely come to experience Jesus.  At first, as you are forced with life’s various challenges and problems, you will figure out your own way to cope with them whether good or bad.  But those problems will never truly go away; they will slowly swell up to a mountain size dilemma.  There, you will come to the end of your own strength and wisdom, unable to see that solution.  Finally, at that moment when you are without hope in yourself, you will cry out to the Lord Jesus Christ and He will show up strong on your behalf.  This is when you will experience Jesus; and as you see Him for the first time, you will be able to look back on your life and recognize all the previous times He was there knocking on the door of your heart.  Then you’ll know that He never left you, failed you, and will never forsaked you!

So, when you come to the end of yourself, remember to call on Jesus’ name and then you will be blessed.  I am absolutely sure of it.

Sincerely,

Correll Hicks Jr.
